The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has announced a 24-hour nationwide hunger strike on October 15 in solidarity with doctors in West Bengal. The strike supports the ongoing protest by junior doctors in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical and Hospital, where a trainee doctor is involved in a tragic case of murder after rape.
The hunger strike of junior doctors at RG Kar Hospital has entered its ninth day. So far, three doctors have been hospitalized after their health deteriorated due to the strike. In response, the IMA has declared that junior doctors across the country will observe a hunger strike from 6 am to 6 pm on October 15, backing the demands of Kolkata’s doctors.
IMA National President has visited the fasting doctors in Kolkata, acknowledging their right to protest and demand justice. The situation has highlighted the intense pressure faced by medical professionals, particularly in cases where their safety and well-being are compromised.
The hunger strike aims to draw national attention to the doctors’ struggle, as they continue to fight for their rightful demands.
