Nine workers lost their lives and another was injured due to a landslide at a construction site near Kadi town in Mehsana district, Gujarat. The accident occurred while workers were digging a 16-feet deep pit for an underground tank in Jasalpur village as part of the construction for Steelinox Stainless Private Limited.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and conveyed their grief over the tragic incident.
Prahlad Singh Vaghela, the in-charge of Kadi police station, stated that after the accident, fire brigade and police teams, with the help of laborers, worked for two hours to recover the bodies. Nine workers were found dead, while one laborer was rescued and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Most of the deceased were from Dahod district, while three were from Rajasthan, and all were aged between 20 and 30 years.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, and officials are examining how the workers became trapped under the soil. The incident has raised concerns about safety at construction sites, especially during major excavation projects.
