Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has urged Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) to withdraw its support from the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh and at the Centre. Yadav made this request, aiming to stop the BJP’s influence in the state. However, the JDU rejected Yadav’s appeal, stating that they would not act on it.

Yadav also raised concerns over his security after he was allegedly stopped from visiting the JP International Center. He later went on to pay tribute to socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan’s statue, accompanied by hundreds of his supporters.

The legacy of Jayaprakash Narayan, who was a key figure during the Emergency and a strong socialist leader, is currently a point of contention between the ruling BJP and the opposition. Akhilesh Yadav highlighted the ideological significance of Jayaprakash Narayan and appealed to Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to uphold socialist values by withdrawing support from the BJP.

Yadav also claimed that Nitish Kumar’s political rise was shaped by the socialist movement and urged him to stay true to those roots. He expressed disappointment at being prevented from paying tribute to Jayaprakash Narayan and questioned the political motives behind it.
