Security forces in Manipur have seized a significant quantity of arms and ammunition during operations conducted over the past three days. The seizures took place in various parts of the state, with a major operation carried out at Champhai Hill in Imphal East District on Wednesday.
During the operation, police and security forces recovered a variety of weapons, including an M-16 rifle, a .22 rifle, two Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), a country-made Sten gun, two carbines, and eight country-made 9mm pistols. In addition, three magazines and twelve 2-inch mortars were also confiscated.
The large-scale recovery of weapons has raised concerns about the ongoing security situation in Manipur. Authorities have been conducting operations in an effort to curb the circulation of illegal arms and maintain peace in the region.
Manipur has faced intermittent violence, and security forces remain vigilant in their efforts to prevent further escalation. The seized arms are believed to be part of a larger network, and investigations are ongoing to identify those involved in the trafficking and possession of the illegal weaponry. The operation marks a significant step in strengthening law and order in the state.
