A court in Maharashtra’s Nashik district has summoned Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his alleged objectionable remarks against Hindutva ideologue Damodar Savarkar. The notice was issued by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Deepali Parimal Kaduskar on September 27, stating that Gandhi’s comments against a patriot were prima facie defamatory. Rahul Gandhi has been asked to appear in court, either in person or through his legal representative, on the next scheduled date, which has yet to be announced.

In a separate matter, the hearing of a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi in the MP-legislative court of Sultanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, was postponed today due to the illness of the lawyer representing a local BJP leader. The hearing has now been rescheduled for October 9. Gandhi’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, confirmed that the postponement was due to the health issues faced by the complainant’s counsel.

The defamation case in Uttar Pradesh pertains to comments made by Rahul Gandhi about Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the 2018 Karnataka elections. The cases are part of a string of legal battles faced by Gandhi, with political implications that continue to draw national attention.
