The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has developed six advanced silo projects across three states, including Punjab, under the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model. Three of these projects, equipped with state-of-the-art storage and transportation facilities, are located in Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Batala in Punjab.
The primary aim of these projects is to enhance storage infrastructure and improve grain transportation. According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the silos have been constructed on a Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) basis with private investments. In Punjab, the Sahnewal Silo Project, developed by M/s Leap Agri Logistics (Ludhiana) Private Limited, boasts a storage capacity of 50,000 tonnes and has significantly benefited local farmers by increasing the state’s storage capacity.
Similarly, modern silos have been set up in Cheharta and Batala in Amritsar. In Bihar, a 50,000-tonne silo developed by M/s Adani Agri Logistics (Samastipur) Ltd. at Samastipur, Darbhanga, became operational at the end of May. These projects, equipped with modern technology, aim to improve the efficiency and storage capabilities in the respective states.
