After Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced his sudden resignation, the party has been holding discussions to select his successor. On Monday, AAP’s political affairs committee scheduled a meeting to deliberate on the matter.
Earlier in the day, senior leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia met Kejriwal at his official residence to discuss potential candidates for the chief ministerial post. Several names are being considered, including Delhi ministers Atishi, Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Kailash Gehlot, as well as Delhi Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rakhi Birla, and Kejriwal’s wife Sunita.
Kejriwal, who was recently released on bail in the Delhi Excise Policy case, announced on Sunday that he would not assume the role of Chief Minister again until he receives a “mandate of honesty” from the people. Addressing party workers at AAP headquarters, Kejriwal emphasized that he and Sisodia can only return to their respective roles of Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister if the public affirms their integrity.
The party is now working to finalize Kejriwal’s successor in the wake of his unexpected resignation.
