Justice Surya Kant of the Supreme Court today reaffirmed India’s strong commitment to international arbitration agreements and the enforcement of foreign arbitral tribunal decisions. Speaking at the closing ceremony of a conference on International Arbitration and Rule of Law, he stated that India’s dedication to this dispute resolution system has never been in question. According to Justice Kant, arbitration is rapidly becoming the preferred method of resolving disputes in the country, reflecting a significant shift in India’s legal landscape.
“Today, India stands on the threshold of a new era of arbitration,” Justice Kant said. He highlighted that arbitration is not only emerging as the favored mode of dispute resolution but is also receiving continuous structural support to enhance its effectiveness. India’s legal framework for arbitration is being strengthened, encouraging both domestic and international confidence in the process.
