The central government has extended the deadline for the commission investigating the violent incidents in Manipur until November 20, 2024. The commission, led by former Guwahati High Court Chief Justice Ajay Lamba, was established on June 3, 2023. It was originally required to submit its report within six months of its first meeting. However, due to the complexity of the inquiry, more time has been given.

Manipur has experienced severe unrest, resulting in the loss of over 220 lives. The government formed this commission to investigate the cause and events leading to the violence. The recent notification states that the commission will now submit its findings “as soon as possible but not later than November 20, 2024.”

The inquiry aims to uncover the factors contributing to the violence and offer recommendations for ensuring peace and stability in the state. By extending the deadline, the central government hopes to ensure a thorough and detailed investigation, giving the commission the necessary time to complete its work comprehensively.
