A Delhi court today acquitted 10 individuals accused of illegal assembly and arson in connection with the 2020 North East Delhi riots. Additional Sessions Judge Pulastaya Paramchala delivered the verdict, citing concerns over the credibility of the testimonies provided by three policemen who served as key witnesses.

The court expressed doubts about the validity of the testimony, noting that it would not be justifiable to rely solely on the statements of the police officers. Furthermore, the judge raised concerns about the “false claims” made by the investigating officer and the three policemen regarding the identification of the accused.

The case was filed at the Gokalpuri police station, where the 10 accused had been charged with various crimes during the violent riots. However, due to the inconsistencies and concerns over the investigation process, the court ruled in favor of acquitting the accused. The judgment highlights significant issues in the investigation and witness statements, raising questions about the handling of similar cases during the riots.
