Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot has sought an explanation from the Congress government regarding allegations of irregularities in the allotment of land to a trust run by the family of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. The controversy has led the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to demand the resignation of Cabinet Minister Priyank Kharge, who is Mallikarjun Kharge’s son.

The allegations stem from a petition sent to the Governor on August 27 by CT Narayanaswamy, the leader of the Karnataka Legislative Council. The petition accuses the Congress government of favoring Kharge’s family and demands Priyank Kharge’s dismissal from the cabinet.

Priyank Kharge responded to the situation by criticizing the Governor’s swift action on complaints against Congress leaders while accusing him of being slow to act on complaints against BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) leaders. Kharge suggested that the Governor’s actions appeared to be biased.

The issue has intensified political tensions in Karnataka, with both the BJP and Congress trading accusations. As the Governor awaits the government’s explanation, the demand for Priyank Kharge’s resignation continues to add pressure on the ruling Congress party.
