Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a scathing attack on the central government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today, criticizing their decision to observe June 25 as ‘Constitution Killing Day’. The date marks the anniversary of the Emergency declared in 1975.

In a post on social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi expressed her astonishment that those who she claims have repeatedly attacked the Constitution and the spirit of democracy would celebrate such a day. She emphasized the importance of the Constitution, stating, “The great people of Bharat have won their freedom and their constitution by fighting a historic battle. Those who made the constitution, those who have faith in the constitution, will protect the constitution.”

Targeting the BJP, she further accused the party of opposing the implementation of the Constitution, forming commissions to review it, and appealing to abolish it. “They have repeatedly attacked the Constitution and the spirit of democracy with their decisions and actions. They will celebrate ‘Constitution Killing Day’ with negative politics. What is surprising in this?” she added.

The declaration of June 25 as ‘Constitution Killing Day’ has sparked widespread debate, with various political leaders weighing in on the implications and motivations behind the observance. The Emergency, imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, remains a controversial chapter in India’s political history, and its remembrance continues to evoke strong reactions across the political spectrum.

Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks reflect the ongoing tension between the Congress and the BJP, highlighting the deep-seated ideological differences that shape the political landscape of India.
