A devastating Israeli air strike on a school in southern Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 25 people, as reported by an Associated Press journalist counting bodies at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. The strike, aimed at terrorists reportedly gathering in Gaza’s largest city, also left dozens injured, including women and children. Hospital spokesman Wem Fares expressed concern that the death toll might rise as rescuers continued their efforts amid ongoing bombardments.
Earlier airstrikes in central Gaza claimed the lives of 14 people, including four children and a woman. The escalating violence has prompted a mass exodus of thousands seeking shelter, with health services severely hampered as hospitals struggle to cope with the influx of casualties. Nabel Farsakh, spokesman for the Palestinian Red Crescent, noted that ambulances faced difficulties reaching affected areas due to ongoing military operations.
“This is a dangerous situation,” warned United Nations officials, as medical teams worked under threat to evacuate patients from affected areas. Red Crescent-operated medical facilities in Gaza City were forced to close, redirecting patients to alternative care centers like an Indonesian hospital in northern Gaza. Amid fears of further attacks, hospitals in Gaza City have been cautious about admitting patients, fearing Israeli military actions.
In response, the Israeli military stated it had communicated to Gaza’s medical institutions that there was no need for evacuation, amid ongoing efforts to target militant positions. The latest escalation underscores the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza, with international calls for de-escalation and renewed efforts towards a lasting ceasefire remaining urgent.
