A decade and a half old bridge in Saran district collapsed on Thursday, marking the tenth bridge collapse in the state over the past 15 days. This alarming series of incidents has raised serious concerns about the integrity and maintenance of Bihar’s infrastructure.

District officer Aman Sameer reported that two bridges have collapsed within the last 24 hours alone. He stated that an investigation has been ordered to determine the reasons behind these frequent collapses.

Local residents have pointed to continuous rains over the past few days as a potential cause, suggesting that the persistent weather conditions may have compromised the structural integrity of the bridges.

In response to the growing number of incidents, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has instructed the road construction department to conduct a thorough investigation into the condition of old bridges throughout the state. The Chief Minister emphasized the urgency of ensuring the safety and reliability of Bihar’s infrastructure, particularly in light of the recent collapses.

Authorities are now focused on identifying the root causes and implementing necessary measures to prevent further incidents, aiming to restore public confidence and safeguard the community from potential hazards associated with deteriorating infrastructure.
