In recent developments, the residents of Akhara village near Jagraon have joined the election boycott initiated by Bhundari village near Ludhiana, opposing the construction of gas factories in their areas. The villagers organized a tractor march to voice their concerns, which saw participation from neighboring villages, amplifying the protest.
The protesters argue that the proposed gas factories will lead to severe air and water pollution, posing a significant threat to the health and well-being of the local population. They fear that the pollution could cause a spike in diseases, disrupting their lives and livelihoods.
Earlier, similar protests had erupted in Mushakabad village against the construction of a biogas factory. Residents there have expressed similar concerns, stating that the pollution from the factory would contaminate local water sources and degrade air quality, leading to numerous health problems.
The escalating protests and election boycotts reflect the growing unrest and determination of the villagers to protect their environment and health. The authorities have yet to respond to these concerns, and the situation remains tense as the villagers continue their fight against the perceived environmental threat posed by these industrial projects.
