Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lalkrishna Advani was bestowed with the prestigious Bharat Ratna award today, Sunday. President Draupadi Murmu visited Advani’s residence to confer upon him the highest civilian honor of the country, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. Advani, who couldn’t attend the award ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday due to ill health, received the honor amidst dignitaries at his home.
The President had previously posthumously honored four eminent personalities with the Bharat Ratna at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday, March 30. The recipients included former Prime Ministers Chaudhary Charan Singh and P.V. Narasimha Rao, former Bihar Chief Minister Karpuri Thakur, and agronomist Dr. M.S. Swaminathan. Family members of the honorees, including Narasimha Rao’s son PV Prabhakar Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh’s grandson Jayant Chaudhary, Karpuri Thakur’s son Ramnath Thakur, and MS Swaminathan’s daughter Nitya Rao, received the honors on their behalf.
Advani’s recognition with the Bharat Ratna adds another illustrious chapter to his distinguished political career, underscoring his significant contributions to the nation’s development and political landscape.
