The ongoing farmers’ march in Delhi faced a two-day hiatus following the untimely death of young farmer Shubhakaran Singh. Resuming activities today, leaders Sarwan Singh Pandher and Jagjit Singh Dallewal, held a press conference at the Khanuri border to address the pressing issues.
Expressing condolences, the farmer leaders declared a candle march on the borders, paying homage to the martyred farmers in the movement. Additionally, they announced plans to symbolically explode 20 feet high effigies of the Central and Haryana governments, underscoring their protest. A crucial meeting is slated for February 28 to determine the movement’s next steps, with the decisions unveiled on February 29.
A distressing report emerged from a Haryana farmer leader, highlighting alleged police brutality against not only Punjab but also Haryana farmers. Schools in Haryana were accused of being transformed into paramilitary bases, disrupting education. Incidents of tractors being vandalized, lathi-charges, and arrests of farmers coming to join the protest were decried.
In a shocking revelation, Preetpal Singh, a farmer from Nawangaon, Haryana, was reportedly brutally assaulted by Haryana Police, resulting in broken legs and jaw. Admitted to PGI Rohtak, Singh is battling life-threatening injuries. Further, charges under section 307 have been levied against the assaulted farmers. Volunteers aiding during the farmers’ movement have also faced attacks, adding to the growing concerns surrounding the ongoing protests. The developments underscore the tense atmosphere surrounding the farmers’ movement, with leaders vowing to address these issues in the days ahead.
