In a fervent display of discontent, pensioners affiliated with Powercom and Transco gathered for a dharna outside Powercom’s head office in Patiala on February 15. Expressing their dissatisfaction with the Punjab government, the pensioners vowed to persist in their fight for the fulfillment of their demands.
Bhinder Singh Chahal, President of the Pensioners Association Head Office in Patiala, criticized the government’s financial management, highlighting the failure to meet salary obligations. Chahal revealed that, despite a nominal disbursement of twenty thousand rupees to pensioners and thirty thousand to employees on February 1, the government only released full salaries and pensions after employees threatened to escalate their protest.
Chahal urged the government to promptly release subsidies to Powercom’s management to alleviate the financial burden on both pensioners and employees. The protest underscores the ongoing challenges faced by retired and current workers, emphasizing the need for swift governmental action to address their financial concerns.
