In a chilling incident, masked robbers invaded a residence in Ghagga town last night, holding the family members at gunpoint and looting Rs 33 lakh. Upon receiving the distressing news, the police and forensic team promptly arrived at the scene, initiating a thorough investigation into the harrowing crime.
Speaking to the media in Patiala today, SSP Sharma disclosed that an investigation team has been constituted to delve into the matter. The head of the victim’s family, who operates a grocery shop on the lower floor of the house, found themselves targeted in the early hours. Around 2:30 am, a loud noise at their window prompted investigation, leading to a terrifying encounter with three armed, masked intruders.
The assailants forcibly entered, holding the entire family captive, and extracted the key to access the substantial sum of Rs 33 lakh kept in a cupboard. DSP Daljit Virak of Patdar swiftly responded to the incident. In solidarity with the affected family, Ghagga’s shopkeepers staged a day-long protest by keeping their shops closed, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the need for swift action.
The town remains on edge as authorities intensify efforts to apprehend the culprits and provide reassurance to the community. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability faced by residents and underscores the pressing need for enhanced security measures in the region.
