In a significant move towards bolstering the welfare of women and children in Punjab, the state government has released a substantial amount of Rs 46.89 crore for the payment of honorarium to Anganwadi workers and helpers. Dr. Baljit Kaur, the Minister of Social Security, Women and Child Development in Punjab, affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of vulnerable communities.
Highlighting the initiative, Minister Baljit Kaur announced that the allocated funds, amounting to Rs 46.89 crore, cover the honorarium payments for Anganwadi workers and helpers from November 2023 to January 2024. These funds fall under the comprehensive scheme that encompasses services such as supplementary nutrition, immunization, health check-ups, referral services, nutrition and health education, and pre-school activities. The beneficiaries of these services include children aged 6 months to 6 years, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
The breakdown of the allocation for various districts illustrates the government’s focus on equitable distribution. Notable allocations include Rs 3.70 crore for Patiala, Rs 3.31 crore for Amritsar, Rs 4.71 crore for Ludhiana, and Rs 3.58 crore for Gurdaspur. This financial support aims to empower local communities and enhance the delivery of essential services.
Specific districts such as Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Sri Muktsar Sahib, SBS Nagar, Moga, Mansa, Sangrur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Bathinda, Barnala, Rupnagar, and SAS Nagar will receive varying amounts tailored to their respective needs. This strategic allocation reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by different regions within the state.
Minister Baljit Kaur emphasized the multifaceted services offered under the scheme, including vital components like supplementary nutrition, immunization, health check-ups, and pre-school activities.
