In a significant development, 50 senior doctors at RG Kar Hospital have resigned in solidarity with the junior doctors. This decision came after the Kolkata Police refused permission for a mega rally that was to include senior and junior doctors, as well as representatives from the nursing and medical community. The rally had been scheduled for Tuesday.

In response, the senior doctors have taken up a unique form of protest. Some have gone on a hunger strike, while others have withdrawn their resignation and resumed their medical duties to continue serving patients. The protest initially saw six junior doctors, including three women and three men, beginning a hunger strike, which is now being supported by their senior counterparts.

The medical community is demanding attention to the issues faced by doctors, and the refusal of permission for the rally has only heightened the tensions. The strike has brought to light the challenges and frustrations within the healthcare sector, as doctors and medical professionals call for better working conditions and rights. The situation remains tense as the protest continues, drawing attention to the healthcare workers’ cause across the region.
